Miss A. and her Boudoir Experience

Miss A. is obviously a very confident, very outgoing woman. It was nothing short of a unique experience getting to photograph her- in that, this session wasn’t to give to anyone else. This boudoir experience was for herself. And in a rare occasion, I left this session feeling like I was the one who benefitted more than my client.

I walked away from our time together having learned a little more about body positivity and self love than I was expecting. She radiated confidence the entire time we shot together. She never winced at the way her skin pinched in a certain position, or made any excuses for her stretch marks. She was unapologetically perfect in her own skin. I soaked up most of what she had to say and clung to her “fuck the oppression” attitude she had about being a woman. As our session continued we bounced ideas of my take on boudoir being classy and owning yourself as you are, and her take on allowing yourself to push the limits on what’s acceptable.

Being a boudoir photographer, I get a very unique take on meeting people because their “armor” is literally stripped off. Our conversations most often go deeper than the surface level of, “how are you”, “I’m fine” kind of conversations. I can’t stress enough how deeply refreshing that is. I get to hear about the journey my clients have had living in their bodies. I get to hear about perhaps how they have become disconnected with themselves, or how their bodies have made them feel disconnected to their partners. And then in the case with Miss A. I get to hear about how she doesn’t pay any mind to what anyone else thinks about anything. She lives her life for herself and knows that above all else, she loves herself first and foremost. Which is a lesson that is very hard to learn.

So I walk away from this session with a list of insights that I hope to pass on to my future clients. Love yourself for who you are in its entirety. Fuck what everyone else thinks.
